Capita have announced in their latest Technical Roadmap that SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014 will no longer be supported after the Summer 2022 release of SIMS. The latest release of Microsoft SQL Server that is supported for Capita SIMS is SQL Server 2016 SP2. All queries will be optimised to run natively on SQL Server 2016 SP2.
How do you check what version of SQL Server you are running?
Firstly, when you are logged into SIMS click 'Help' from the top menu and then select 'System Information'
Once you have selected this, you will be presented with an screen similar to the one below.
This screen shows all the system information for your SIMS database such as the server name, database name and the version of SQL server that you are running. Look at the line 'SQL Server Version'. if your version is less that Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (SP2-GDR) then you should consider having your system migrated to the latest version of SQL Server.
What happens if you do not upgrade your version of SIMS SQL Server?
If you do not migrate to the latest version of SQL server, you may find that when new versions of SIMS are released that your SIMS system suddenly stops working.
How to upgrade your SIMS Server
Upgrading your SIMS server is a specialised task and for it to happen you will need to book a SIMS server migration with us. When we undertake a SIMS server migration we setup your SQL server to be optimised to run your SIMS database efficiently as possible.
The migration can be undertaken at a time to suit you and typically takes around a full day for a large secondary school and half a day for a primary school. The migration includes migrating your SIMS, FMS, Solus 3 and Discover Databases. Once the migration is completed we carry out a full audit and testing process to ensure everything is running as it should be.
